Areas of special interest

My name is Treasa Forristal and I am a fully accredited Play Therapist and Psychotherapist. Following my primary degree, a BA in Early Childhood Studies from University College Cork, I trained as a Play Therapist in the Children’s Therapy Centre graduating in 2013. I work with children and young people with a wide range of emotional needs aged three to eighteen years in Waterford and Kilkenny. I have worked therapeutically in a variety of settings including primary schools, local organisations, pre-schools and secondary schools. My approach is dependent on the child and families needs and may be directive or non-directive. I may use Filial or Theraplay with families where appropriate. I have worked with children on the autism spectrum for a number of years, carrying out sensory play work, attachment work and developing therapeutic support groups for siblings. I create a supportive, consistent and safe space for children to come and express their deepest feelings, thoughts and fears. Those who are taking care of the young person are very important and we work closely together.
